ISTE, Bloom, and SAMR Standards

Objectives: Teachers will

  • become familiar with ISTE standards and make the connection between ISTE and Common Core State Standards
  • create/revise a lesson to incorporate some of the standards in a more student-centered approach.
  • become familiar with tools that support ISTE standards, Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy, and the SAMR Model.

Activity: ISTE student standards

  1. Watch the ISTE Student Standards video.
  2. Do a quick read of ISTE student standards.
  3. Pick out two--one you are already doing and one you would like to be doing.
  4. Watch the Soda Can Density Discrepancy video and highlight which skills the students demonstrate in the video.
  5. Debrief.

Activity: Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy

  1. List the 10 most common activities that you generally use in the classroom.
  2. Record the Bloom’s level associated with the activity.  
  3. Review the SAMR Model.
  4. Think about a new activity that would require a higher Bloom’s level.
  5. Consider the SAMR level.
  6. Introduction to Tellagami: App tour and examples
  7. Add a technology tool to support the new activity.

 

 

Activity: Bloom & SAMR & ISTE in a Lesson

1.    Teachers have time to explore websites to support a lesson they are developing or revising.

2.     Teachers include the level of Bloom and SAMR and the ISTE and CCSS standards they are incorporating.

Next Steps:

  • Teachers use the lesson created/modified and reflect on its presentation and outcome
  • Teachers create another lesson using ISTE standards and Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy in meeting the CCSS.

 

Follow Up Suggestions:

  • Continue discussion at staff or department meetings of the ISTE standards and how to incorporate them in their lesson planning to help students meet CCSS.
  • Begin investigation into problem-based learning (PBL) which supports all: CCSS, ISTE, SAMR, and Bloom’s.
  • Have discussions at staff or department meetings about using Skype in the classroom and investigating the projects identified in the module.
