Objectives

Teachers will:

  • Explore foundational concepts for “personalizing learning”

    • Engage definitions and descriptions of “personalized learning”

    • Explore comparisons of Personalization, Differentiation, Individualization

    • Review models for Stages of Personalized Learning and PL Environments

  • Explore Newsela as a Solution for Differentiating Reading Levels for Informational Text

    • Go in and explore in relevant content areas - ed tech solution with clear purpose and function.  

    • Differentiation for teachers who already are familiar.  Giving them choice.  Finding something they will actually use with their learners.

  • Further develop their proficiency (knowledge and skills) using G Suite for Education to support student learning

    • Review available professional learning resources for G Suite

    • Select and engage an appropriate one that supports their self-determined targeted learning

    • Lexile levels - knowing where your learners are at; knowing how to find in Newsela

  • Krause Center for Innovation (KCI)  A technology innovation lab located on the campus of Foothill Community College.  Offers several summer training programs.  Fees range from free to $$$ depending on the program.

  • Kyte Learning  An online collection of training videos.  It is a commercial site and requires a paid membership but it is relatively affordable.

  • Explore strategies for getting to know your students as learners

  • Discuss and explore strategies for creating highly collaborative learning experiences.

    • Rotational models, blended classroom strategies.

    • Alignment of space, strategies, tools

  • review exemplar technology standards and how they support technology rich classroom environments.

  • create flexible learning spaces that support a diverse array of learning approaches
